Martyna Kotwila

Martyna Kotwila is a Polish athlete specializing in track and field events, particularly sprints. She has earned a silver medal at the European Championships, a bronze medal at the World U20 Championships, and has claimed multiple national titles. In 2018, she achieved a remarkable time of 22.99 seconds in the 200m, setting a new Polish junior record that had stood for many years.

Born on January 13, 1999, in Radom, Poland, Martyna began her journey in athletics at a young age, quickly demonstrating her exceptional talent in sprinting and running, which positioned her as one of the most promising athletes in the nation.

Martyna Kotwila commenced her competitive athletics career in 2013, where she secured a bronze medal in the 100m event at the Radom Polish U16 Championships. Additionally, throughout that season, she achieved gold medals at various local competitions held in Radom and Paslek.

In the subsequent two seasons, she established herself as one of the leading junior sprinters in the nation, securing bronze medals at both the Toru Polish U18 Indoor Championships and the Lodz Polish U18 Championships. Additionally, she made her debut at the senior national championships, where she achieved a second-place finish in the 4x100m relay during the 2015 Krakow Polish Championships.

In 2016, Martyna Kotwila made her international debut at a significant championship, finishing in 4th place in the 4x400m relay at the Bydgoszcz IAAF World U20 Championships. She also earned a silver medal in the 1,000m medley sprint at the Tbilisi European U18 Championships. Furthermore, she claimed silver medals in both the 100m and 200m events at the Wroclaw Polish U18 Championships, along with a bronze medal in the 60m at the Spala Polish U18 Indoor Championships.

Martyna Kotwila commenced the 2017 season by securing the gold medal in the 200m and the bronze in the 60m at the Torun Polish U20 Indoor Championships, in addition to participating in the Lodz Orlen Cup. Throughout the outdoor season, she achieved gold in the 200m and silver in the 100m at the Torun Polish U20 Championships, and also took part in the Grosseto European U20 Championships, where she placed 7th in the final.

In 2018, Martyna Kotwila attained her most significant individual accomplishment to date, earning the silver medal in the 200m at the Tampere IAAF World U20 Championships. She also competed in the Berlin European Athletics Championships, where she finished 6th in the 4x100m relay and was unable to advance past the semi-finals in the 200m. In 2019, Martyna Kotwila maintained her dominance in Polish athletics in the 200m event, securing the gold medal at the Torun Polish Indoor Championships. However, she only managed to finish 7th at the Radom Polish Championships, despite being considered one of the favorites for the title. On a positive note, she triumphed at the Lublin Polish U23 Championships, winning both the 100m and 200m events. Martyna also participated in the Gavle European U23 Championships, where she did not advance to the finals in the 200m but earned a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay. Additionally, she claimed a silver medal in the 4x100m relay at the Warszawa Memorial Zygmunt Szelest and finished 6th at the London Muller Anniversary Games.

Martyna Kotwila achieved silver medals in both the 200m and the 4x100m relay at the Wloclawek Polish Championships, along with a silver in the 200m at the Jozef Zylewicz Memorial Meeting and a silver in the 100m at the Janusz Sidlo Memorial Meeting.

In 2021, Martyna Kotwila did not deliver a notable individual performance and was unable to secure an accolade at a significant championship; however, she achieved a silver medal in the 4x400m relay and a bronze in the 4x100m at the Poznan Polish Championships.

In 2022, Martyna Kotwila participated in the Polish 4x400m women’s relay at both the Eugene World Athletics Championships and the Munich European Athletics Championships, but she did not advance to the finals in either event. Nevertheless, she claimed the gold medal in the 200m and the bronze in the 100m at the Suwalki Polish Championships, in addition to winning the gold in the 100m at the Szczecin 5th Memorial Wieslawa Maniaka.

Martyna Kotwila commenced the 2023 season with impressive performances, securing the gold medal in the 200m and a silver in the 60m at the Torun Polish Indoor Championships. Additionally, she earned a silver medal at the Karsten Warholm Invitation AL. However, her participation in the 60m at the Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships did not result in a finals qualification. In the outdoor season, she achieved a silver medal in the 200m and a bronze in the 100m at the Gorzow Wielkopolski Polish Championships. Furthermore, she claimed gold at the Oulu Motonet GP, silver at the Kladno hazí a Kladenske Memorialy 2023 in the 200m, and a bronze at the Joensuu Motonet GP in the 100m.

In 2024, Martyna Kotwila secured the gold medal in the 200m at the Torun Polish Indoor Championships and finished in 4th place at the Orlen Cup Lodz in the 100m. She was also a member of Poland’s 4x100m women’s relay team for the Nassau World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas, although the team did not achieve a podium finish.
