Yuliya Chumachenko is a Ukrainian athlete specializing in the high jump. She secured gold medals at the 2019 Universiade in Napoli, the 2019 Summer Universiade in Kropyvnytskiy, and the 2020 Balkan Indoor Championships in Istanbul. Yuliya Chumachenko ranks among the leading Ukrainian athletes and high jumpers. Her personal bests are 1.94 m outdoors and 1.93 m indoors.
Yuliya Chumachenko, also known as Yuliia Chumachenko or Julia Chumachenko, was born on October 2, 1994, in Mykolayiv, Ukraine. She began her competitive career as a junior in 2010, achieving gold at the Illichivsk Olympic Champions’ Prizes and the Donetsk meeting. In 2013, she earned a bronze medal at the Yalta Ukrainian University Championships, and in 2015, she claimed gold at the Rieti IAAF World Challenge and silver at the Kirovograd Ukrainian U23 Championships.
In 2016, Yuliya Chumachenko won silver at both the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships and the Zaporozhye Ukrainian Club Championships. That same season, she made her Diamond League debut at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix, finishing in 6th place. Additionally, Yuliya Chumachenko won gold at the 2016 Lignano Sabbiadoro Meeting International Sport Solidarieta and silver at the Heusden-Zolder KBC Night of Athletics. She has also triumphed in numerous local events and meetings.
In 2017, the Ukrainian athlete secured the gold medal at the Bydgoszcz European Athletics Festival and the Eaubonne Meeting Elite, in addition to earning silver at the Ostrava Czech Indoor Gala and the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships. She participated in the Beograd European Indoor Championships but did not achieve a medal, finishing in 9th place.
Yuliya Chumachenko claimed the gold medal at the 2018 Sollentuna Folksam GP and the silver at the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships. Throughout the season, she established her personal outdoor best of 1.94 m during a competition held in her hometown of Mykolayiv.
The year 2019 proved to be the most successful for the Ukrainian athlete, as she won gold at the Universiade in Napoli, matching her personal best of 1.94 m, along with securing silver at the Folksam Grand Prix and bronze at the Memorial Josefa Odlozila in Praha. Indoors, she achieved gold at the Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava.
Yuliya Chumachenko secured the silver medal at the 2020 Ukrainian Championships, in addition to winning bronze at both the 2020 Kladno Hazi A Kladenske Memorialy and the Cluj-Napoca Balkan Championships. Throughout the season, she achieved gold at the Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava and silver at the Orlen Cup. Furthermore, she claimed gold at the Istanbul Balkan Indoor Championships and silver at the Istanbul Cup.
In the subsequent years, Yuliya Chumachenko continued to excel, winning gold at several prestigious athletics events and meetings. She earned titles at the 2021 Memorial Josefa Odlozila in Praha, the 2022 Kladno hazĂ a Kladenske Memorialy, and the 2022 Hvezdy v Nehvizdech, along with silver medals at the 2021 KBC Nacht van de Atletiek, the 2021 56. Internationales Pfingstsportfest in Rehlingen, and the 2022 Memorial Josef Odlozila. Additionally, she won the title at the 2022 Ukrainian Championships.
In 2023, during the indoor season, she achieved silver at both the Beskyd bar and Hvezdy v Nehvizdech.
Yuliya Chumachenko is undoubtedly one of the most gifted high jumpers from Ukraine. She ranks among the top European athletes, and we anticipate even greater achievements in the years to come.
