Angelica Bengtsson is a distinguished Swedish athlete specializing in pole vaulting. She made history by becoming the first pole vault champion at the inaugural Summer Youth Olympics held in Singapore in 2010.
Born on July 8, 1993, in Vackelsang, Sweden, she initially pursued gymnastics and aspired to emulate her father’s achievements in javelin throw. However, her exceptional talent in pole vaulting soon became evident.
She commenced her athletic journey at the club level with IFK Vaxjo before transferring to Hasselby SK. Bengtsson has secured gold medals at both the 2009 World Youth Championships and the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics. During the 2019 World Championships final, Bengtsson broke her pole on her third attempt at 4.80 m, allowing her to retake the attempt. She successfully cleared that height, securing 6th place in the competition and establishing a new Swedish outdoor record. On February 24, 2019, she set a new national record of 4.81 m indoors in Clermont-Ferrand.
Throughout her career, Angelica Bengtsson has claimed eleven national titles. On November 1, 2021, she announced her retirement from the sport of pole vaulting.
