Fatoumata Binta Diallo

Fatoumata Binta Diallo is a Portuguese athlete specializing in sprint events and hurdles, primarily focusing on the 400m hurdles. She is four-time national champion and competed at the Roma European Athletics Championships and Paris 2024 Olympics.

Born on April 23, 2000, she developed a passion for sports early in her life. Diallo officially began her athletics career in 2015, achieving victory in the Parchal event for both the 100m and 400m distances, and competing in the 200m at the Fatima Portuguese U18 Championships, as well as participating in the 13th European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi, although she did not reach the final race.

In 2016, Fatoumata Binta Diallo secured a bronze medal in the 400m event at the Pombal Portuguese Club Championships. The following season, she continued to enhance her skills and achieve better results, clinching gold medals in the 60m, 200m, and 400m events at the Faro Regional Winter Championships. Additionally, she earned a gold medal at the Marinha Grande Portuguese U20 Championships and a silver medal at the Pombal Portuguese Indoor Club Championships in the 400m. In the 300m event, she achieved gold at the Abrantes Portuguese U18 Championships and silver at the Pombal Portuguese U18 Indoor Championships. Fatoumata Binta Diallo triumphed with a gold medal in the 400m at the 2018 Pombal Portuguese U20 Indoor Championships, as well as at the Faro Meeting Vitor Tavares and the Liboa event in the same distance.

In 2019, the Portuguese athlete began competing in hurdles, winning gold at the Portuguese Indoor Club Championships in the 400m and silver at the Portuguese U20 Championships in the 400m hurdles. She also participated in the Portuguese relay team at the European U20 Championships in the 4x100m.

In 2020, Fatoumata Binta Diallo narrowly missed out on a medal at the Portuguese Indoor Championships in the 60m event, finishing in 4th place. Nevertheless, she achieved success in several regional championships and meetings, coming close to qualifying for the final of the French U23 Indoor Championships.

She secured a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles at the Portuguese U23 Championships in 2021, although she finished 5th in the 100m event, just outside the medal positions. Diallo also participated in the European Athletics U23 Championships in Tallinn for the 400m hurdles but did not advance to the final.

In 2022, she claimed gold in the 4x400m relay at the Championnat de France des clubs, as well as victories in the 60m at the Meeting de l’Eure and the 200m at the Meeting de Savigny. Additionally, she earned a silver medal in the 400m hurdles at the French U23 Championships and competed in the Mediterranean Athletics U23 Championships, where she finished 5th in the final of the 400m hurdles.

In 2023, Fatoumata Binta Diallo achieved gold in the 400m at the Championnats de France Nationaux en salle and also secured a silver medal in the 4x400m relay.

In February 2024, Fatoumata Binta Diallo secured the Portuguese national indoor championships in both the 200m and 400m events. Additionally, she contributed to the Portuguese 4x400m relay team, which established a national record of 3:31.93 during the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships held in Glasgow. She advanced to the final of the 400m hurdles at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, achieving a personal best and national record of 54.65 seconds, ultimately finishing eighth overall. In August, she participated in the 400m hurdles at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where she placed second in her heat, qualifying for the semi-finals with a time of 54.75 sec. She concluded her semi-final in sixth place, clocking in at 54.93 sec.

Fatoumata Binta Diallo started the 2025 season by winning the 60m bronze and 200m silver at the Chpts d’Ile-de-France Espoirs, as well as the 400m silver at the Championnats AURA Indoor CJES.
